Top 10 Murals of NYC

Tracing the history of NYC’s murals can be a bit tricky. Even the new murals feel like they have always belonged to the wall they are on right now. The art presented on these walls is not meaningless. Every piece of it presets the history of NY and it’s people. Art has always been used for multiple purposes, sometimes for beautification and sometimes to spread awareness.

These are the top 10 murals of NYC. Overall these murals presents a picture of the artist landscape.

1. Banksy, Hammer Boy

New York artists have never disappointed its viewers. They go on on every wall of NYC and create great art. What is more amazing that no artist either small or big is left behind in NYC. Hammer Boy was put up on 79th street of Manhattan by Banksy. This pleasing to the eye art-piece is carefully situated near a fire hydrant on which a child has been portrayed playing strongman games in the carnival. Artist has not used an actual child that has a real face, it only shows a figure of a child’s shadow. 

2. Arts Org NYC Top to Bottom Mural Project

A three-story building was given new life when its owner decided to give the old construction a new look. This building is situated in Long Island City. the owner of this building contacted several artists from all over the world to come and contribute to this project.  

3. The Audubon Mural Project

This project is a tribute to a great author and artist John James Audubon. After his death murals of birds were made near Audubon’s neighborhood, which is now threatened by climate change. This project also includes information about the birds and artists who completed the work.    

4. The Bushwick Collective

A resident of Bushwick Joe Ficalora took a step ahead to paint bad memories of his murdered father and mother’s death by brain tumor with art. In 2011 money was being raised to help kids with a brain tumor which later converted as a great movement of art. Several business owners gave their walls for artists to create murals. It is an ongoing project.  

5. World Trade Center

When the world trade center was reponed in 2018 it was realized that this is a great opportunity to do something unique. Art on these walls is filled with bright colors giving people hope. 

6. Graffiti Hall of Fame’s Latin American art:

This place was founded in 1980 with the aim of giving artists a safe environment to display their skills. The site’s motto is “Strictly Kings or Better”. Various artists from across the globe presented their art on this wall.   

7. Tuff City

This is a tattoo shop where well-known muralist’s work can be found. This place is used by artists to put up their signature pieces. 

8. The Bowery Wall Mural

It has been 40 years since Keith Haring placed his piece on Bowery Mural Wall in NYC. after this many more artists participated in painting the wall with art. Later artists across the globe were invited to paint it.   

9. Street Art for Mankind

Street Art for Mankind is an NGO that contacted artists, government, corporate sponsors, and international organizations to spread awareness for child trafficking, child labor, and slavery. Murals can be found in midtown Manhattan and lower Manhattan. 

10. Welling Court Mural Project

It started as a community project but now it is one of the greatest mural art attractions of NYC. Various well-known artists contributed to this project. 

These are top 10 great murals that we selected for the list but that does not mean other murals mean less. Art can not be compared because every artist has its own cause for painting what he painted and why he has painted it.
