Dance Performance
Both men and women take part in this dance performance. Women usually wear gold and silver ornaments along with colorful costumes. The male performers use limited jewelry. Laho dance starts with a woman linking arms with two men on the other side and they altogether dance the steps. The synchronization and harmony among them are noteworthy.
Another remarkable thing is that instead of any musical instruments, a man with a strong and sweet voice recites the couplets during the dance performance accompanying the dancing retinue. That person usually recites ribald couplets with rhythm and the spectators burst out in laughter.
Other Names of Laho Dance
Laho Dance has several other names. It is also known as the Chipiah Dance. It is often performed in local events, especially where indigenous cultures are represented, respected, and performed. This folk dance is also famous among the Harp tribe of Meghalaya with a different name. There Laho Dance is known as Wangala Dance.
